Talkative Tian Jin People

I passed by Tian Jin many times to and from Beijing and my home city when I was a medical student in Beijing 35 years ago, but never stopped over to have a look at this old city not far from Beijing, this is the reason for me agreeing on giving a whole day talk on GCP in one of the big pharmas in Tian Jin mid this week.

Tian Jin people were called ‘Wei (Tian Jin) Mouth’ which means talkative, After the whole day talking and I felt a bit tired and decided to postpone my flight and have a good rest. The next morning I stopped talking and started walking, I walked all the way to the market of local delicacy and wandering in the tiny Zhongshan Park and a nearby morning market, many retired elderly are doing their morning exercise with loud music, obviously they started their day with 1 hour dance rather than a couple of coffee.

I spent 1 RMB for a bag of wild vegetable after a nice chit-chat with a lady and when she heard that I plan to take it to Shanghaiin the afternoon, she gave me twice more. “You can fry it with egg, it’s very nice”, another old lady told me. I asked the way to Italian Fashion Zone, a old man who was flying kit looked at me and said “why don’t you take a bus, don’t waste your money on Taxi”. I followed his low carbo instruction and spent 2 RMB for the ride.

After a long walk in the Bar Streetin Italian Fashion Zone, I had my noodle in the Shen Yang Road, I had to take a Taxi back to the hotel in order to catch my flight, “where can I get a Taxi?” I asked a security man, “you can stop a Taxi on the road, don’t use the Taxi which is waiting as they normally charge you more” he guided me.

“Where do you come from” the driver asked, “I came from Shanghai” I replied, the Taxi driver started his history lesson to me, “Shanghai was a village when Tian Jin was a well-known commercial city, Tian Jin had many first (s) in China history, you know: the first railway, the first rail-station and first University in China etc, you know?” his determined voice was very convincing. “ Absolutely, I nodded “ I totally agree with you that Shanghaipeople have nothing to be proud of apart from The World Expo 2010 which actually not a big event at all.”

With the taste memory of famous “the Dumplings Ignored by Dogs” I had to say goodbye to the River Hai and I believe that Tianjing people are so proud of their history and this is one of the reasons at least for them to remain being talkative, One tip for people who are traveling to Tian Jin, when you ask your way, you ask a elderly as they are warm hearted and they got patience for you.
